The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® proudly supports two charitable funds through the Outer Banks Community Foundation (OBCF), providing a meaningful way for REALTORS® to give back to the community. The Scholarship Fund, established in 1996, helps graduating students in Dare, Currituck, and Hyde Counties pursue higher education. The Disaster Relief Fund offers critical assistance to Outer Banks residents facing natural disasters such as flooding, fires, and hurricanes. These funds are supported by OBAR’s Surf, Turf, & Roll tournaments and surprise raffle events, giving REALTORS® an opportunity to support and strengthen the community they serve. #OBXRealtorsCare
Surf-Fishing Tournament
The 29th Annual OBAR Surf Fishing Tournament returns on October 2, 2026, bringing together anglers, REALTORS®, and community members for a day of friendly competition along the beautiful beaches of Nags Head. Teams will compete for top prizes while enjoying beach-day fun, all while making a meaningful impact on the Outer Banks community. Whether you’re casting a line or cheering from the shore, this is a fantastic opportunity to support a great cause.
Last year, Liquid Assets of SAGA Realty & Construction, led by Captain David Sullivan, claimed first place with a total of 58 points. Sea Haven Realty Old School, with Captain Gary Dunstan, followed in second with 39 points. TowneBank Mortgage, captained by Kaye Jones, rounded out the top three with 23 points. The teams reeled in some impressive catches, the largest being a 22” speckled trout caught by Vernon Helms.
Altogether, the tournament raised a total of $10,000, with SAGA Realty & Construction generously donating their entire $600 cash prize back to the fundraiser.

Bowling Tournament
Nearly 20 teams rolled into OBX Bowling Center dressed in their best superhero attire for OBAR’s Annual Charity Bowling Tournament! The lanes were filled with energy, friendly competition, and plenty of team spirit—all in support of a great cause.
The Alley Avengers, led by Captain Lisa Sawyer of Basnight & Moran Insurance, bowled their way to first place. The Uncrustables, led by Steven Gillis of Steven Gillis State Farm, earned the Spirit Award for bringing outstanding enthusiasm and superhero energy to the event.
New this year, OBAR unveiled its “Superhero” Donation Board, which will recognize top donors at each Surf, Turf, and Roll fundraising event. Special thanks to Steven Gillis State Farm, Basnight & Moran Insurance, Ilona Matteson, The Doshier Team, Coastal Carolina, Doug Brindley, and Island Insurance for their generous support.
Together, participants and donors raised more than $5,000 for OBAR’s Disaster Relief Fund, held at the Outer Banks Community Foundation. This year’s proceeds will directly assist families affected by the fire at Shallowbag Bay Condominiums.
