Originally named “The Dare County Board of REALTORS®”, The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS®(OBAR) was formed in 1962 by 12 men; Bill Anderson, Bill Foreman, Harry Lawrence, David Stick, Ted Wood, Bob Young, Ernest Meekins, Orrville Baum, Bill Fletcher, George McGaw, Eddie Melson, & John Lawrence.
However, the Dare County Board of REALTORS® did not become incorporated until 1988. The Articles of Incorporation included Board of Director members: Paul Breaux, Doug Langford, Jackie Ricks-Sample, Bobby Harrell, Jim McCreery, Bill Wheeler, David Perrot, Cathy Hoppe, and Joe Smith.
By 1994 the Board had grown to 379 REALTOR® members and 42 Associate Members (Community Partners & Affiliates). After expanding the Board’s territory to include other counties on November 7, 1994, NAR approved the Dare County Board of REALTORS® request to change their name to the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS®.
Today there are over 1,000 members of the Association, including over 900 REALTORS®, over 100 Property Managers, and almost 40 Community Partners and Affiliates.
The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® jurisdiction spans over 2 counties including Dare County and parts of Currituck County. It includes the following townships:

Our Boundaries Include:
NORTHERN BOUNDARY - Beginning at the Currituck Sound and proceeding across the boundary line where the Poplar Branch Township Outer Banks limits meets the Fruitville Township line to the Virginia state line.
EASTERN BOUNDARY - The Atlantic Ocean.
SOUTHERN BOUNDARY - The Southernmost Boundary of Dare County.
WESTERN BOUNDARY - The Westernmost Boundary of Dare County proceeding north up the Currituck Sound to the western boundary of the Currituck area of the Fruitville Township.
